Pencil Box Project Update Full form and needs listed below WE CANNOT PROVIDE PERSONAL SCHOOL SUPPLIES. PLEASE GOOGLE DENVER FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR A LIST OF AVAILABLE HELP.THANK YOU.
Every year, over 900 homeless children in Denver struggle to meet the basic needs of getting back to school- we need your help! The Child Rescue Foundation began the Pencil Box Project in 2002 to serve the children who are working toward their high school graduation with the help of Denver Kids Inc. With the help of generous individuals and organizations in the greater Denver area, we have helped over 4500 children get the supplies they need to successfully complete their schooling.
- Message from the ExecutiveDirector on this year’s Donations…..
- I am often told when picking up that our donors have felt they “could have done more.” I am of the belief that if we get one pencil, it was one pencil more than we had at the beginning of the drive, and what makes us successful is the donors huge hearts that come out and give their all to help the children we serve.
- AT THE BEGINING OF THE SCHOOL FALL SEASON, A COUNSELOR RELAIDED A STORY ABOUT HER STUDENTS.SHE TOLD US THEY HAD 4 BACKPACKS FOR OVER 1200 STUDENTS, AND ON BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT , 4 PENNIES WERE TO BE PLACED UNDER THE CHAIRS OF 4 STUDENTS. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU, NO CHILD THIS YEAR IS GOING BACK TO SCHOOL WITHOUT THEIR NECESSARY SCHOOL SUPPLIES!
-
- As many of you know, this organization is a fully volunteer driven organization, with no staff or board member receiving compensation for their time. We know that giving a hand up and not a hand out allows students to own their education, and hence, we partner with Denver Kids and other outlying agencies who expect their children to maintain certain grade levels, attend class regularly, and push themselves to be successes. In seeing their success rate, it is our privilege to be part of their effort in giving students who often have to choose between dinner and a backpack, their backpack to see them through to their success.
- On behalf of the Board of Directors of CRF, we wish to say a huge thank you for the most successful drive in our 11 year history of providing support to the Denver Public School System and their students.

The Pencil Box Project
We have chosen Denver Kids as the recipient of these gifts for the following reasons:
-
Children in this program have very fractured home lives..some have no parents, some living in hotels. To get into Denver Kids, they must be in school without significant leaves of absence, retain a B grade and MORE..each child receives a mentor and counselor who literally becomes this child guide and mentor through life. DPS graduation rates as of 2015 sit at 65%. Denver Kids has a success rate of 91%!! We are happy to provide a hand up, not a hand out, as these children prove they are indeed dedicated towards their education. Join us in this amazing journey of children by providing the simple tools they need, but cannot afford to get through school. AVG COST for backpacks for each grade 2015: Kindergarten…$90..Middle school/elementary….$145..High School…….$240
Step 1: Sign up by requesting a form. Fill it out and fax it to: 303-753-9416
